Sault Ste. Marie Looking to Recruit 70 New Doctors
Sault Ste. Marie is looking to recruit 70 new doctors over the next two to three years as the community works to address growing health-care needs.
The local Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee is expanding its efforts, increasing its budget from $300,000 to $355,000 and adding a second full-time recruiter this fall.
The committee has already recruited 24 physicians, including nine this year, while another 30 doctors are currently at various stages of the recruitment process.
The search includes both family doctors and specialists, with needs ranging from primary care to surgery, psychiatry, pathology, and obstetrics and gynecology.
Manager Tasha Varpio says the goal is ultimately to improve access to care and attract physicians who want to build their careers and lives in Sault Ste. Marie.
