City Issues Reminder on New West End Intersection

A new all-way stop is now in effect at the intersection of Base Line Road and Carpin Beach Road, and the City of Sault Ste. Marie is reminding motorists to be aware of the change.

The new traffic control places stop signs on all approaches to the intersection, requiring drivers to come to a complete stop before proceeding when it is safe to do so. The change follows years of safety concerns raised by residents, parents, daycare staff and area councillors about vehicle speeds and collisions near R.M. Moore Public School and Child Care Algoma.

The city says motorists should watch for the new signs, adjust their driving habits and proceed with caution. Early reports following the installation found some drivers were still travelling through the intersection without stopping, highlighting the importance of driver awareness as residents adapt to the new traffic pattern.
