Ontario Invests in Indigenous-Led Education- Expanding Opportunities for Shingwauk Kinoomaage Gamig

Ontario has announced a historic $57 million investment to support Indigenous postsecondary institutes across the province — the largest single investment of its kind in Ontario’s history.

This new funding will nearly double operating support for Indigenous Institutes, including Shingwauk Kinoomaage Gamig, ensuring long-term sustainability and expanding access to Indigenous-led, culturally grounded education. The investment will create hundreds of new seats in in-demand programs such as health care, education, trades, STEM, transportation, and Indigenous languages.

This milestone funding strengthens pathways to good-paying, rewarding careers for Indigenous learners while supporting language revitalization, community well-being, and economic reconciliation.

Learn more about how this investment supports Indigenous learners, communities, and the future of Indigenous higher education in Ontario.
